with terminal cancer
said she is going to
have to find up to
£36,000 to fund avastin in order to get
precious time with
her family.
Last January, Maria Douglass,
39, of Wrekenton,
Gateshead, was diagnosed
with incurable bowel cancer
which has spread to her liver.
Over the months she has had an operation and undergone several chemotherapy
sessions at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, but she is still suffering from the disease. Her only hope of seeing her children Samantha, 17, and Joshua, eight, grow up and snatch valuable time with her husband John, 41, is a drug called Avastin – a lifeextending drug. But Gateshead NHS trust has turned down the
dying mother’s appeal to get the medication and Maria said she has no savings to fund the drug and will have to fundraise..More...
